Can you play an escape room if you're pregnant?

If you’re planning to visit an escape room during your pregnancy, or if you’re planning an outing for a soon-to-be mom, you may be wondering if our escape rooms are safe for pregnant women.
Before you play any of our escape rooms please consult with your doctor. Only a medical professional can determine whether an escape room activity is safe for you. However, this post can give you some ideas about what elements you should take into consideration if you want to play an escape room while pregnant.

Physical Activity and Restraints
At Breakout Games, all of our rooms require much more mental labor than physical labor. However, some escape rooms at other companies may require more physical effort to solve. Some may require you to climb stairs or crawl through a tight space to enter another room. These physical activities may not be suitable for pregnant women.
You should also consider if the room has any physical restraints, such as handcuffs. Three of our rooms at Breakout Games use handcuffs: Wild West, Hostage, and The Kidnapping. If you would like to play any of these rooms without handcuffs, please call us ahead of time so we can make accommodations for you.

Seating Availability
Many of our rooms at Breakout have chairs and other places to sit down. We recommend calling ahead of time to check if the rooms you are interested in have this capability. We also may be able to bring in an extra chair for you, depending on the size of the room you choose.

Loud Noises and Jump Scares
Escape rooms are full of surprises, and some of our rooms contain mild jump scares. None of our rooms include any live actors, and our themes are not designed to be scary. But we do include small surprises that may be startling for some people.
If this is a concern, please let us know ahead of time so we can make arrangements to avoid the jump scare.

Proximity to Restrooms
First, it’s important to know that our escape doors do not actually lock. You are free to leave the room at any time, for any reason. Such as using the restroom.
Our escape room buildings do have restrooms, but some rooms are closer to the restrooms than others. Feel free to ask us ahead of time so we can recommend the closest rooms.

Remember to Consult Your Doctor
We’re happy to help address any concerns you may have before playing an escape room, and we will try to make every accommodation to allow you to play our rooms safely. Considering the points in this post with your doctor will help you make the best decision for your safety.

One more question… can you bring a baby to an escape room?
Yes, you can! We allow parents to bring infants into our escape rooms for no charge. However, you should consider the same questions before deciding to take your baby with you: physical activity and restraints, seating areas, loud noises and jump scares, and proximity to restrooms.
