Intergenerational activities bring younger and older people together for a common purpose or goal. They are activities that all ages can fully participate in and enjoy. And studies support how beneficial they are. They build respect, further understanding, and challenge ageism.
If you want to plan some intergenerational activities for your family or other important people in your life, we’ve got some suggestions for activities in which members of all ages can feel fully included!

Baking and Cooking
Cooking and baking can involve anyone of any age. And this activity can be a great way for older adults to pass on treasured recipes to younger generations. Food is about more than just taste– it’s about culture, tradition, and memories. Getting everyone involved in baking and cooking together will foster meaningful connection.

Board and Card Games
There are definitely some games that are meant more for kids or more for adults, but the great news is that there are so many games designed to include members of all ages. Playing games can also give adults the opportunity to teach children and teens some of their favorite games and vice versa. This post on how to host the perfect game night lists some of our favorite games.

Escape Rooms
Of course we at Breakout Games would suggest this, but one of our favorite things about escape rooms is that they are fun for all ages! Every participant, young or old, can enjoy solving puzzles together.
Additionally, all of our games at Breakout are designed to challenge your mind, not your physical ability. So if you’re bringing older adults to our escape rooms, you don’t need to worry about it being too physically demanding.
Check out our suggestions for the best breakout rooms for kids and teens to help you get started.

Being in Nature
Soaking in some sunlight is good for everyone. Whether it’s nature walking, bird watching, hiking, or gardening, there are plenty of fun activities for every age to do together outside.

Arts and Crafts
Creating something you love is so meaningful. And whatever craft you make together you can use as a keepsake of your special day! Check out this Pinterest board for more inspiration.

Museums
Going to a museum can keep everyone’s minds healthy– young or old. The opportunity to explore interesting subjects and learn something new is good for all ages. Many museums are free, and some offer discounted rates to children and seniors. Check out the museums in your area to see what discoveries await.
