While trick-or-treating is a Halloween staple for a lot of families, there are plenty of reasons why you might want to pass on this tradition. Maybe there are safety risks to trick-or-treating, hygiene concerns with the Covid-19 pandemic, or maybe your kids are getting a bit too old to ring neighbors’ doorbells and ask for candy.
But the good news is that there are plenty of other ways to spend your Halloween. Here are our ideas for trick-or-treating alternatives.

Stay in for a Family Game Night
You don’t have to go out to enjoy a fun-filled Halloween. As an alternative to trick-or-treating, you can gather family and friends together and play some fun board games or card games at home. You can get creative and have people dress up in themed costumes for the games you’re playing! Check out this post for more tips on how to plan the perfect game night.

Visit a Zoo
Many zoos have Halloween nights with lights and Halloween colors. Your family can see your favorite animals and have a truly unique experience at the zoo that only comes once a year.

Play an Escape Room
Escape rooms are a fun, immersive experience that are great alternatives to trick-or-treating and also to haunted houses. For Halloween, you can pick a spookier themed escape room without worrying about it being scary. At Breakout, our most popular rooms around Halloween are The Kidnapping, Mystery Mansion, and Clue. Try a Halloween Pinata
Who says pinatas are only for birthday parties? If you’re planning a small Halloween gathering, you can bring the candy to you with a Halloween pinata. This is a great way to enjoy candy with a little excitement without having to go out for trick or treating.

Have a Baking Night
If your family has a sweet tooth, stay at home and bake some yummy Halloween treats together. This can be a great way to teach your kids some kitchen skills as well. Here are some baking ideas to get you started.

We hope this list helps you get some ideas for trick-or-treat alternatives. From all of us at Breakout, we wish you a safe and happy Halloween!
