3 Time Wasting Things to Avoid in Escape Rooms

Escape room game masters will tell you that they see a lot of players spend time on things that are not necessary or could have been avoided. Little “time-wasters” can end up costing you a lot because they add up!
Since every second counts in an escape room, you don’t want to waste any precious time– even on little things. Here's what to be aware of so you don’t make the same mistake in your next escape room:

Repeating Work

Especially in larger groups, players don’t always know what someone else has solved. We’ve seen players work hard on a puzzle that someone else already completed, only to realize they didn’t need to.

While it's smart to divide and conquer, you still need to keep tabs on what the rest of the group is doing. If you do break off to solve different things in an escape room, be sure to come back together and tell the rest of the group what you've solved.

Misplacing Clues

Players often set clues down in one area of the room and then forget where they put them. This is why we recommend designating one area of the room for the clues you find. That way if you find something earlier in the game, but need to use it later in the game, you'll know exactly where it is.

To bring it back to our first point, it's a good idea to separate clues into ones you've used, and ones you haven't.

Misplacing Writing Utensils

A lot of our rooms at Breakout offer an expo marker to write notes on a whiteboard. We can’t tell you how many times groups lose the expo marker and struggle to find it when they need to write something down! We recommend making one person in the room the note-taker and having them keep the marker on them at all times. When you need to take notes, you'll be ready!

We hope these time-saving clues help you in your next escape room! If you're ready to play, find an available room here.
