Escape rooms are a team activity, but what if you want to form a team of just two players? Maybe you’re looking for a fun date activity or something to do with your best friend. Can you play an escape room with just two people?
At Breakout Games, we allow a minimum of two players in all our escape rooms. You’re welcome to take on any of our challenges as a dynamic duo, but there are several factors you should keep in mind:

Difficulty Level
In general, escape rooms are more difficult with only two players. When your escape room group is larger, you have more brains thinking in different ways and more sets of eyes to spot clues. You take on a bigger challenge if you choose to play an escape room with only two people. You may want to consider asking for more hints than you would if you played with a larger group.

Cost
At Breakout Games, our cost per person changes depending on the number of players per game. If you play with two people, the cost per person will be higher than if you played with a larger group. While you would pay less overall with only two players, you do save on the cost per person with larger groups.

Your Escape Partner
If you do choose to play an escape room with only two people, you need to pick a really good partner. Make sure you work together well with this person because it will just be the two of you alone in a room for one hour! Because it’s already more challenging to break out with only two people, if you start to question each other or argue, you’ll lose your chance at escaping. So again, make sure you really trust the partner you’ll play with.

So is it worth it?
It’s up to you to decide your escape room group size, but for the reasons listed above, many game masters would tell you that escape rooms are more fun with at least three people. We generally feel that 4-5 players is an ideal size, but it definitely depends on your situation. Escaping successfully can be done with the right partners. The most important factor is that your group works together well, whatever your group size is.
