What Not To Do in an Escape Room

In an escape room, your goal is to solve puzzles, crack codes, and answer problems in order to escape. It’s a fun and exhilarating experience that lets you feel totally immersed in a storyline. But while you’re having fun, it’s important not to get too carried away and risk your or your teammates’ safety. Here are the things you should NOT do when you play an escape room:

Don’t explore the ceiling.
In an escape room, everything you need to successfully break out will be within your reach. Climbing on furniture or other props is not necessary.

Don’t be destructive.
At Breakout, we encourage you to be aggressive, but not destructive. You don’t need to use excessive force to win the game. Nothing in the room should require you to use more than about two fingers of pressure to open or close. As a general rule, be gentle with our props.

Don’t disregard instructions.
Whatever instructions we give you are to help you. We promise! We’re not trying to trick you. Be sure to listen carefully to all instructions from your game master.

Don’t put things in your pockets.
It’s best to keep what you find in escape rooms out in the open. If you put an item in your pocket, you risk walking home with it. And during the game, it’s also easy to forget that you put a clue in your pocket. We recommend designating one area of the room to store all your clues instead.

Don’t be late.
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early for your escape room experience. Arriving early allows you plenty of time to get signed in, use the bathroom, and get settled before your escape room starts.
Because we have many groups playing our escape rooms throughout the day, we have to stick to a tight schedule. If you arrive late, you may have to play the escape room with less than the full 60 minutes. Or you might have to completely reschedule your experience. So for the best experience, be on time.
